ELKO — The Great Basin College Foundation Board recently selected Matt McCarty for the role of chief development and foundation director.
Appointed on April 1, McCarty will lead the foundation to its next level of excellence by connecting the community to the advancement, mission and goals of GBC, said a statement from the college.
McCarty brings more than 15 years of leadership and civic engagement experience to the job. Prior to joining the college, he was general manager of TownPlace Suites by Marriott for the past seven years.
His professional portfolio includes serving as a board member for the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority, chairman of the Great Basin College Institutional Advisory Board, cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, chairman of the government and affairs committee for the Elko Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Elko Lions Club.
McCarty graduated from Great Basin College with a bachelor of applied science in management and technology degree in 2013.
Joyce Helens, president of GBC, said the appointment of McCarty is reason to look forward to a new era in continuing the GBC legacy in serving rural Nevada.
“Matt’s high energy to give back to his community is apparent in his numerous voluntary leadership activities,” she said. “With a career in hospitality, he has traveled the state, and he appreciates and understands the individual personalities of the communities we serve. His greatest strength among all others, however, is a dedication to “customer service” — identifying individual needs and seeking to serve others in fulfilling those needs. This has won him accolades in the hospitality business and will drive his success leading the GBC Foundation as well.”
