ELKO – Elko County School trustees accepted the resignation of a Wells elementary teacher accused of inappropriate relationships with two high school students.
Tennille Whitaker’s letter of resignation was received by the school district Aug. 16 and it was approved as part of a consent agenda with three other items.
Whitaker is charged with eight counts of sexual conduct with a pupil. Court documents said the students were between the ages of 16 and 18 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.
Superintendent Jeff Zander said Whitaker was on administrative leave with pay after her arrest June 5.
She was employed by the school district for 11 years.
In October, authorities began investigating Whitaker when a parent reported she was with a student behind closed doors. The school district began interviewing students and staff in February.
Whitaker was released from custody on bail one day after her arrest. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11 in Elko Justice Court.
