ELKO – The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for much of Elko County, all of Eureka and Lander counties, and northern Nye County beginning early Wednesday morning.

“Snowfall will impact the region starting on Wednesday, with periods of snow continuing through Thursday,” stated the announcement. “Plan on slippery road conditions.”

The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Thursday.

Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected over the two days, with localized amounts up to a foot at the highest elevations.

The extended forecast calls for a continued chance of snow showers through the weekend. Highs will be in the lower 40s -- about 25 degrees colder than Tuesday's expected high in the mid-60s.
