Are sticks in the mud in Elko government ever going to approve medical pot sales? I doubt it. What idiots.
It has been mind boggling to watch Elko refuse to seize this opportunity, and they still continue to watch as everyone else is capitalizing on this tax that has proven to make big money for schools etc. However they raise my property taxes each year.
There is a Medical/Recreational Marijuana store just down the street from where I live (obviously not Elko).
It quietly opened its doors about 7-months ago. There have been no issues whatsoever concerning the nature of the business. And from what I've personally observed, the place couldn't get much busier, and it's open 24 - 7. The owner/operators of the business must be grossing at least $500,000 per day, every day. if not more.
That's an awful lot of potential tax revenues the city would be missing out on. I'd imagine that most smaller-sized cities could certainly use additional (legal) sources of tax revenue whenever/wherever they might be able to get them.
This seems like a great economic development/tax generating opportunity for the city, however, I believe it's going to take some political initiative to get done.
So, now the Elko Daily Free Press no longer acknowledges the provisions of the 1st Amendment? In Elko nonetheless.
