I am the mom of an athlete at EHS and it vexes me immensely to sit in the stands and listen to the “fans” of EHS rip apart the coaches using disrespectful and foul language. Especially when these are the teams they supposedly came to support. (What a great example for our kids.) For future reference, I will refer to them as “couch coaches.”

Personally, I believe, the position of a coach and teacher is a job that does not see enough thanks, praise or respect. Each coach on the field or court gives his or her time to our athletes each and every day and does their best to help them succeed both on and off the field or court. Coaches are doing what I consider to be a thankless job (as I listen to comments from the stands, that thought is confirmed).

Why would a coach even consider being a coach when “couch coaches” that should be rooting for and helping you are very vocally against you? Two of the many reasons I believe are because 1, our coaches love our kids; and 2, coaches love the sports they coach enough to put up with the “couch coaches” garbage.

Why don’t we give them THANKS for spending time with our athletes and helping them to develop as individuals instead of being negative? I love the fact that there are men and women out there willing to give of their time and talents to my athlete, so that he may participate in the sports he loves. Without our coaches, we would not have sports for our athletes to play!

How many of these so called “couch coaches” are willing to put their “couch coaching” to the test and give up their time each and every day for their own athlete as well as ours?

Why don’t all you “couch coaches” get down on the sidelines and actually coach instead of sit in the stands and be so insulting to our coaches. One of my favorite quotes states: "Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly." So believe me, we are hearing all you feeble-brained “couch coaches” even when we don’t wish to and so are all the kids, which we as the adults, are supposed to be setting great examples for.

So from this mom of an athlete: To all the men and women coaches at EHS: THANKS for all your hard work, dedication and willingness to give of your time and talents to all our athletes, so that they may participate in the sports they love! You are the truly the best!
