The non-call leads to a Saints go-ahead field goal in the 4th quarter of the NFC Championship game and the Rams get the ball back with enough time to make a final drive leading to a FG to tie and get into OT. This is considered to be one of the worst officiating moments in NFL playoff history. Bill Vinovich will be a household name after this non-call.
There is controversy of the ball tipped at the line of scrimmage. Some say the ball was not catchable. There are those saying none of this matters because Drew should’ve handed off the ball anyway. There are many saying a team with a 3 point lead and under two minutes remaining needs to win with no blame or excuses. There is also a belief that this was not pass interference and simply good old school defense. The most surprising viewpoint has been that the ref was bought or games are scripted like wrestling.
