SPRING CREEK – Spring Creek’s varsity wrestling team placed first out of 32 teams at the Buck’s Bags Duals in Boise, Idaho.

This is the tenth year that the Spartans have competed in the duals.

“We battled to get to the finals,” said Spartans’ coach Wade Pehrson. “We have never before made it to the finals in this tournament. It was very exciting to see the duals win come down to the last match with Dllyan Fuchs, who stepped up to the mat for us. The last match in the dual was such a cool atmosphere.”

The key wrestlers in the duals were junior Josh Tripp, who went undefeated with a 6-0 record with two pins in the 120-pound weight class and was named for the all-tournament team. The other three wrestlers named to the all-tournament team were sophomore Kodis Campbell with a mark 6-0 in the 120 weight class, sophomore Riley Fuchs went 6-0 and two pins in his 120 weight class and senior Jace Saxton finished 6-0 in his 138 weight class.

“We also had a few guys that were undersized, so we had a few guys step up for our heavyweight class, such as Cody Jenkins and Jeff Guthrie,” said Pehrson.

The wrestlers’ efforts created a positive and motivated team atmosphere for the Spartans that led them to victory on the mat in their weight classes and multiple matches.

“There’s always room for improvement,” said Pehrson. “We need to continue to log mat time in practice, work hard and practice situations. Then, take that practice and use our brains to translate that into the matches in meets.”

Spring Creek will compete at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Evanston Duals in Evanston, Wyoming.

The Spartans’ individual wrestlers will compete in the Evanston Invite against a mixture of 20 different teams at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
