SPRING CREEK – Spring Creek’s diggers and spikers had a four game take down against Sparks at home, 25-9, 25-7, 23-25, 25-16.
Head coach Krystal Keen said the girls were on the top of their game from the first match, and showed up to let Sparks know exactly who they were dealing with.
“(The) effort was great at the beginning,” she said. “(We had) good clean, solid fundamentals.”
Keen said the girls let their efforts diminish in the third set, which allowed Sparks to get a match against Spring Creek.
“They really let off the gas after the first two sets and started to play down quite a bit,” said Keen. “(That) allowed the other team to fire it up and sneak back in.”
Despite the third set let down, Spring Creek came back with its initial fire and finished Sparks off in the final match.
“I stand by my statement that the program has come a long way fundamentally, and has a crazy amount of potential,” she said. “We just have to work a little harder on the mental toughness and the discipline aspect of the game.”
Keen said she is proud of the Lady Spartans’ effort so far this season, and can’t wait to see how the team progresses though its final match.
“They have worked so hard, and I know exactly what they’re capable of doing,” she said. “Now I need them to believe it too, and go out and crush it.”
Spring Creek will hit the road this weekend to play Fallon at 6 p.m. Friday and Fernley at noon Saturday.
