Fun new places to play in the water are springing up all over Elko County this spring.
Following new splash pad play areas opening in Spring Creek and Carlin in the past few weeks, Wells has now opened their own splash pad by the Wells Municipal Pool.
The Wells splash pad was a busy place on Friday's opening day.
The splash pad is bringing more visitors to the pool as well, Wells City Manager Jason Pengelly said. Around 100 children played on the splash pad during opening day on Friday, and those children also visited the pool.
Pengelly said he is interested in turning the area around the splash pad into a city park with a gazebo, barbeque pit and restrooms. He suggested “Lone Tree Park” as a possible name for the area, due to the tree in the middle of the site.
The Wells splash pad welcomed the community to its grand opening on Friday.
He said the splash pad took around a year to build because it had to be shipped in pieces, and they had to “get contractors over here when they weren’t busy – and then we couldn't pave around it until a week ago.”

The splash pad has a pass-through water system. The project was supported by the City of Wells and a Nevada State Parks grant.
The splash pad is from Splash Pads USA. Element Construction constructed the sidewalk, and the City of Wells did the plumbing, mechanical work and paving.
