CARSON CITY, Nev. – Sections of Pyramid Way in Sparks will be closed overnight Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17, as part of a continuing Nevada Department of Transportation project to repave and reconstruct the road.
Construction began in February on the project to resurface the roadway and improve sidewalks and pedestrian crossings on Pyramid Way from Victorian Avenue to York Way.
On Sept. 16 and 17, sections of Pyramid Way will be closed overnight as crews place the final layer of paving.
Pyramid Way closures
Wednesday, Sept. 16 – 7 p.m. Wednesday night to 6 a.m. Thursday morning
- Northbound Pyramid Way closed from Victorian Avenue to Oddie Boulevard. Northbound traffic detoured via Nugget Avenue and Fourth Street.
- Southbound Pyramid Way remains open from Victorian Avenue to Oddie Boulevard. Southbound traffic will remain open, but will be temporarily shifted to northbound lanes.
Thursday, Sept. 17 – 7 p.m. Thursday night to 6 a.m. Friday morning
- Northbound Pyramid Way closed from Oddie Boulevard to Victorian Avenue. Northbound traffic detoured via Prater Way.
- Southbound Pyramid Way closed from Oddie Boulevard to Victorian Avenue. Southbound traffic detoured via Oddie Boulevard.
- Drivers are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time to detour around the closures.
- Construction schedule is subject to change.
Continuing overnight lane reductions
With major paving complete after this week, drivers will continue to see the following periodic overnight lane reductions on Pyramid Way through early 2027 as traffic signal and crossing improvements are finalized.
The following traffic restrictions will remain in place through early 2027. Active work zones will be approximately a quarter mile in length, with the following traffic restrictions in place:
- Both lanes will remain open in each direction during daytime hours.
- Lanes will periodically be reduced to a minimum of one lane nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings.
- Lanes will be slightly reduced in width and shifted in the work zone 24/7.
- Speeds will be reduced through the work zone during construction hours.
- Pedestrian detours will periodically be in place, detouring pedestrian traffic to the opposite side of the road.
- Construction schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.
Project improvements
The project will make the following improvements:
- Resurface both directions of Pyramid Way between Nugget Avenue and York Way.
- Over one mile of roadside sidewalk will be reconstructed for enhanced pedestrian safety and mobility.
- Roadside curbs and driveway and sidewalk ramps will be improved.
- New pedestrian-activated crossings signals will be installed at the intersections of D Street, F Street, L Street and Holman Way. Known as rapid rectangular flashing beacons, the signals allow pedestrians to activate crossing signals for traffic to stop.
- Roadside lighting will also be enhanced.
The approximately $14 million improvement project by contractor Road and Highway Builders will improve Pyramid Way. The road was last fully repaved in 2010, with minor resurfacing in some areas more recently.
