SPRING CREEK — Michael Murphy from Diversified Consulting Services spoke at the Spring Creek Association meeting on Wednesday to discuss updated plans for the Humboldt-Rubies recreational trail system, which would include a trail over Lamoille Summit connecting Elko and Spring Creek.
A bicyclist travels the narrow shoulder along Lamoille Highway going over Lamoille Summit. The proposed trail being planned to connect Elko and Spring Creek might use the area near the highway which was used in the past for the installation of telecommunication and natural gas lines.
A later phase planned for the trail system in the Elko area will go from Elko along Interstate 80 to the California Trail Interpretive Center, which is in the lower left of this aerial view.
When Southwest Gas Corp. installed a gas line along Lamoille Highway between Elko and Spring Creek in 2020, there was talk of building a bike path in the area where the line had been installed, but plans and funding for a bike path were not in place at that time. This is the Southwest Gas pipeline disturbance area looking south from Elko Vista Drive turnoff off Lamoille Highway in the summer of 2020.
