City council statement on Twin Falls shooting tragedy

We, collectively and as a community, are heartbroken by the horrific shooting that took place at In-N-Out in Twin Falls, which left three people dead and seven others injured.

Our heart is heavy. Like many, my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims, those who sustained injuries, and employees of In-N-Out. In an instant, many lives were instantly changed in this senseless act of violence.

On behalf of the City of Twin Falls and Twin Falls City Council, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and loved ones of those who experienced devastating loss. We stand alongside all who loved them as they mourn.

It is especially painful that this tragedy struck a business that had only recently opened its doors and had quickly become a gathering place for so many in our community. What should have been a time of excitement and new beginnings has instead become a source of profound grief.

We, too, are struggling to understand how something so senseless and tragic could happen here and how so many lives could be changed in an instant.

We want to express our gratitude to the men and women of the Twin Falls Police Department, Twin Falls Emergency Communications professionals (911), Twin Falls Fire Department, troopers from the Idaho State Police, Magic Valley Paramedics, law enforcement professionals from multiple agencies who responded, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center. Each served with professionalism, courage, and compassion during an extraordinarily difficult situation.

Additionally, we want to express our appreciation to the off-duty officer and the “Good Samaritan.” We are grateful for their quick response. We echo the comments made by many: their actions saved lives. We are humbled by the support that we have had from many law enforcement agencies from the Treasure Valley – the Caldwell, Meridian, and Nampa Police Departments.
