The City of Twin Falls is temporarily changing the evening gate closure time at Shoshone Falls/Dierkes Lake parks in an effort to protect park facilities and reduce vandalism occurring after dark.
Beginning immediately, the entry gate at Shoshone Falls/Dierkes Lake Park will close promptly at 9 p.m. each evening — one hour earlier than visitors may be accustomed to. The gate will reopen each morning at 7 a.m. The temporary change comes in response to an increase in vandalism and other destructive activity occurring in the park after hours.
“Security personnel will lock the entrance gate when they leave the park at 9 p.m., and City park staff will reopen the gate each morning," said Parks and Recreation Director Wendy Davis. "This temporary adjustment is intended to help protect public parks and ensure Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake remain a safe and enjoyable destination for visitors."
To help notify park users, the City is updating existing entryway signage and installing temporary signs at the park and parking areas. Staff at the entrance booth will also notify late-arriving visitors of the earlier closure time.
The City will continue evaluating long-term solutions to address security needs at Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake parks. Visitors are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly and ensure vehicles and personal belongings are removed from the park before the 9 p.m. gate closure.
